Building on RRI scientists' expertise in the area of prevention, Baycrest will launch the Kimel Family Centre for Brain Health and Wellness, a one-of-a-kind facility combining community wellness programming, specialized clinics, and integrated research aimed at enhancing wellness and preventing cognitive decline among older adults. Our goal is to understand how exercise, nutrition, cognitive, social, sensory, mental health, arts, brain stimulation, and pharmacological interventions interact to maximize brain health and wellness in older adults. With Dr. Howard Chertkow, our new Chair of Cognitive Neurology and Innovation, and RRI Senior Scientist, as the inaugural Director, the Kimel Family Centre will incorporate innovations from the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation, as well as novel interventions and research programs developed by RRI researchers. The ultimate vision is for every older adult to have access to tailored, evidence-based "prescriptions" based on assessments of their physical and mental health, sensory and cognitive functioning, genetic profiles, and patterns of brain activity. This unique direction will allow researchers to bridge the gap between research and practice, while offering personalized medicine to clients. 2017–2018 YEAR IN REVIEW 31
