Communication tips
The following are general tips that should be used when visiting
any of Baycrest's clients.
• Visit in a quiet space
• Be at eye level with your client; if they are in a wheelchair,
sit in a chair
• Set up the room so there is adequate lighting and no
background noise such as televisions
or radios
•
Find areas of common interest – let your client take the lead
• Speak clearly and face your client directly
• Avoid complicated or lengthy statements
• Use your normal conversational tone when speaking
