Baycrest Volunteer Handbook 36 It is important that everyone working, volunteering or visiting at Baycrest performs proper hand hygiene. Hand hygiene done properly, and at the right time, is the single most effective means of preventing healthcare-associated infections. In addition to washing hands before handling food, after going to the washroom or blowing your nose, people working or volunteering in a h ealthcare facility need to perform hand hygiene where indicated by the "4 Moments of Hand Hygiene." IPAC routinely conducts observational audits to determine hand hygiene compliance rates. Compliance rates are reported to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and made publicly available. Clients on precautions Sometimes, routine practice needs to be supplemented with additional precautions. When a client is on additional precautions, a sign is posted on the door of their room.
