C oming off our 100th anniversary in 2018, Baycrest has a lot to celebrate. All the accomplishments from a century of care, innovation, education and research propelled forward by donor support over the years, culminated in a blockbuster, centennial gala that raised more than $10 million from – and for - our community. Those funds are contributing directly towards the new Kimel Family Centre for Brain Health and Wellness – a first-of-its-kind in Canada and one of many leading- edge initiatives anticipated at Baycrest over the next 100 years. The centre will play a pivotal role in the fight to prevent dementia and be a shining example of what is possible in the realm of brain health and aging. The Kimel Family Centre for Brain Health and Wellness will focus on three areas: Community Wellness Programming, Specialized Wellness Clinics, and Integrated Research to Prevent Cognitive Decline. A Clinical Trials Unit will also be developed to provide access to leading-edge drug and non- drug interventions. The goal is to offer Baycrest clients and community members evidence-based, personalized programs to help delay cognitive decline and treat dementias such as Alzheimer's disease. As the heart and soul of our efforts at the Baycrest Foundation, our community members drive all our accomplishments through their passion, dedication and impactful generosity. By supporting The Kimel Family Centre for Brain Health and Wellness, they are helping to solidify Baycrest's position as a global leader in brain health and aging. Moving into 2019, the Baycrest Foundation is continuing to expand and improve our annual, signature fundraising events. These include the Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer's in Support of Baycrest, the 2019 Brain Project citywide charitable art installation, the Baycrest SEALFIT fitness challenge and Barrie 2 Baycrest, among other exciting and unique events. A century-long community effort made Baycrest a global leader in geriatric residential living, healthcare, research, innovation and education, with a special focus on brain health and aging. We look forward to taking our next steps together as we begin our second century and our next chapter.
