12 BrainMatters SPRING/SUMMER 2019
Baycrest SEALFIT
Push harder. Achieve more.
T
here are many good reasons to be active and physically
fit, including reducing your chances of developing
heart disease, stroke and diabetes. It can help you
maintain a healthy weight, lower your blood pressure and
prevent depression. But did you know that exercise can
help you protect your brain health and improve memory
and thinking skills?
With this in mind, Baycrest has partnered with SEALFIT to
host Navy SEAL-inspired crucible training events in Toronto
this fall – the first of their kind in Canada. SEALFIT coaches
use tested and proven methods to foster personal
growth, elite-level teamwork and authentic leadership
modelled after the US Navy SEAL Hell Week. Each of the
events will support research on brain health and aging.
In the inaugural event last year, 30-year-old Georges Dagher was
drawn to the cause because his father has early onset Alzheimer's
disease. "There are many lessons that my dad taught me," said Dagher.
"One was to be in the moment. Wherever you are, really be there in that
moment and give it all you've got. In SEALFIT, you find that your personal
best is really better than you think it is."
This year, there are three event options for participants
ranging from six to 24 hours. SEALFIT provides the unique
opportunity for individuals to test their limits, push themselves
beyond their perception of what is possible and raise money
for brain health and aging research while doing so.
Baycrest SEALFIT is for you if you want to find optimal physical
and mental health, live with courage and succeed in whatever area
you compete in. SEALFIT is truly life changing. The training is
demanding, yet extremely fun and scalable to meet the needs
of both beginners and advanced athletes. A VIP program
is also offered, which will include 1.5 days of pre-training
with SEALFIT coaches before the crucible event.
The SEALFIT event takes place from
September 21 to 22, 2019 at a SECRET
location one hour from Toronto. To learn more
