W
elcome to the latest edition of BrainMatters Magazine, bringing you timely information on brain-healthy living
and ways to optimize your well-being.
Continued innovations and progress in brain health are not possible without the generosity of our community of
donors, volunteers, staff, residents and their families. We are pleased to bring you more stories and news about the
best ways to stay brain healthy, and how we are dedicated to the fight against dementia.
In our cover story, we invite you to meet internationally renowned muralist and brain health advocate Jacquie
Comrie. She joined with the Baycrest Foundation this summer as a featured artist for the 2019 Yogen Früz Brain
Project to raise awareness and funds for our research into dementia. Read her story on how she uses colour to battle
cognitive impairments.
Also in this edition, we share a personal story about caregiving from ET Canada host Cheryl Hickey, cook up a recipe
for a brain-healthy soup, look at the benefits of sleep on the brain, and how a passionate community of donors is
shaping the future of aging care at home - and much more.
Our scientists continue to investigate therapies and lifestyle choices that will help our brains stay healthy longer.
Ongoing research is leading directly to innovations in caregiving and the programs we offer here in Toronto, across
Canada and worldwide.
Please play a role in supporting our ongoing mission to improve brain health for people at every age. Call our
