Sharing Baycrest's research expertise Rigorous evaluation and research are the key to providing the best, evidence-based care to clients. Building on successful collaborations with Baycrest's clinicians, researchers and trainees, as well as with companies, the Kunin-Lunenfeld Centre for Applied Research & Evaluation (KL-CARE) is expanding its service provision to include additional external organizations. KL-CARE aims to provide research and evaluation support that will enhance care and services offered in the community. In the coming year, KL-CARE will continue its growth through fee-for- service engagements with external government agencies, non-profits, and companies, as we strive to create a replicable and sustainable model for other RRI and Baycrest units to share our research and innovation expertise. Encouraging more intergenerational learning Different generations have a lot to learn from one another. Through intergenerational learning, both generations create feelings of acceptance and respect and they also gain a better understanding of each other. Older adults have an opportunity to give back, while younger adults can increase their self-esteem and self-confidence through these relationships. The Research Training Centre (RTC) aims to encourage this type of learning in its upcoming initiatives. The RTC will combine two previous programs to offer an intergenerational learning opportunity for older adults living at home, local high school students, and Baycrest trainees. Through this new initiative, older adults and high school students will have an opportunity to connect with one another, while learning and working collaboratively on experiments aimed at exploring aging and cognition. Enhancing science through diversity The Rotman Research Institute and Baycrest were among the first Canadian academic health institutions to endorse the national Dimensions charter, which recognizes that research is strengthened by greater equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). In alignment with the charter, the RRI is committed to increasing the diversity of our workforce and ensuring that our research addresses the needs of diverse peoples and is conducted in an inclusive manner. 2018–2019 YEAR IN REVIEW 31
