LEADING SOCIAL GERONTOLOGY RESEARCHER JOINS BAYCREST Dr. Grenier, who is also a Senior Scientist at Baycrest's Rotman Research Institute and Professor of Social Work at the University of Toronto, is one of the few researchers in the world adopting an inter-disciplinary approach to examine social policies around care and people's experiences with aging. "Often times we talk about aging and some of the experiences of disadvantaged, older adults may be overlooked," says Dr. Grenier. "This kind of approach helps us to understand that not everyone has a healthy aging experience and some individuals may require more support. My work helps us to understand what needs are not being met and how our system can support these older adults." In her previous role, Dr. Grenier was the Gilbrea Chair in Aging and Mental Health and Director of the Gilbrea Centre for the Study of Aging at McMaster University. Through her work at Baycrest, Dr. Grenier plans to connect with healthcare staff across the organization to uncover ways to improve public policies related to older adults. Dr. Grenier's recruitment was a key step forward in developing the Ben and Hilda Katz Inter-Professional Research Program in Geriatric and Dementia Care, led by Dr. Nicole Anderson. The program continues to recruit additional scientists, and establish roles among clinical Baycrest staff and external health professionals to conduct inter-professional research in geriatric and dementia care. Dr. Amanda Grenier joins Baycrest as the Norman and Honey Schipper Chair in Gerontological Social Work and a member of the Ben and Hilda Katz Inter- Professional Research Program in Geriatric and Dementia Care.
