2019 ROTMAN
RESEARCH INSTITUTE
CONFERENCE
Last March, dementia researchers,
experts, and innovators gathered for
the Rotman Research Institute's 29th
annual conference,
Aging & Brain
Health: Prevention & Early Detection
of Dementia.
During the three-day event, attendees
had a chance to hear from leading
experts from around the world in
dementia prevention and early
detection and discuss the latest
findings and ongoing research in
the field.
The 2019 RRI conference saw the
addition of the What's Next Canada
Innovation Day, bringing together
leaders from the aging and brain
health sector in research, industry,
innovation, and care for networking,
collaboration, and learning. Co-
produced by the Centre for Aging
+ Brain Health Innovation (CABHI),
powered by Baycrest, and Mary
Furlong & Associates, What's Next
Canada included a pitch competition,
where a roster of international
companies competed for the 2019
CABHI Innovation Award in front of an
esteemed panel of judges. The judges
selected early dementia detection
technology from the company
Darmiyan, as the winner. Catalyst
Healthcare, makers of the medication
adherence device, spencer, won the
People's Choice Award.
About 400 people also attended
the RRI Conference's public event,
Memory loss and aging: When to
worry about it and what to do about it,
which featured a presentation by Dr.
Howard Chertkow, Chair in Cognitive
Neurology and Innovation and RRI
Senior Scientist. He shared tips about
what memory mistakes adults should
be concerned about and the latest
evidence on what people can do to
help prevent dementia. Following his
lecture, attendees had a chance to ask
questions of a panel of memory and
dementia experts.
