T H E B R A I N P R O J E C T 2 0 1 9 42 Jacquie Comrie is a multidisciplinary Toronto-based artist and mental health advocate. Whether as murals on buildings, large scale structures or canvasses, her vibrant body of work is a dynamic exploration of colour as a universal language of human emotion. With mental health issues on the rise across the globe, colour is her medium of social impact, helping to create inclusive, colourful spaces of mental reset to ultimately help improve the lives of all individuals, one wall at a time. COMPARTMENTALIZATION By Jacquie Comrie Artist Statement This work pays homage to the power of the female mind and body — their miraculous, transformative nature, strength, resilience and power. It emphasizes the importance of female mental health and how social issues affect our brains and self-care as women. We learn to compartmentalize our feelings and sometimes painful experiences to get through life. Through an orchestrated colour palette, the design aims to elevate the minds of all individuals, still focusing on celebrating the warrior, and the power and beauty of the female spirit.
