WATERFRONT TRAILS: SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE Toronto's waterfront trails hug the shores of Lake Ontario and feature three sections. First, the Etobicoke section guides riders for 2km from Royal York across the Humber Bay arch bridge, one of Toronto's most iconic bridges. Here, it connects with the second part, Toronto Central bike trail, where cyclists can visit the Music Garden, Sunnyside Beach, pool or the snack bar, continuing until Queen's Quay. Lastly, riders can continue onwards all the way to Scarborough. SCARBOROUGH BLUFFS: FOR THE ADVENTURE SEEKER Bluffer's Park, located off Brimley Road in Scarborough, offers a challenging and exhilarating ride for advanced cyclists. The steep decline to Bluffer's Park, at the foot of Scarborough Bluffs, takes riders to an area unlike any other in Toronto, with lagoons, parklands, as well as ducks, geese and swans. After completing the challenging ascent, cyclists will have a unique 65m view of the rocky cliffside above the shoreline. Once you've mastered some of these routes, consider participating in a fundraising event where you'll have the opportunity to ride with hundreds of others and your pedal power (and dollars!) will go a long way. BrainMatters SPRING|SUMMER 2020 21 JOIN THE BAYCREST RIDE Barrie to Baycrest (B2B) is celebrating its 25th anniversary ride this year and there's never been a better time to take part. Choose from 50km, 75km or 100km distances and enjoy a scenic, exhilarating ride from Barrie back to Baycrest, where your friends and family can greet you at the finish line. By participating in B2B, you'll help raise vital funds for exercise programs at Stan's Gym and the new Kimel Family Centre for Brain Health and Wellness at Baycrest. This new, first-of-its-kind Centre will be a shining example of what is possible in the realm of brain health and aging. By focusing on three areas — community wellness programming, specialized wellness clinics and integrated research to prevent and treat cognitive decline — the Centre will seamlessly integrate brain health, physical fitness, nutrition and social engagement for older adults. Now is the time to take your ride to a new level. Visit b2b.baycrestfoundation.org to sign up.
