4 BrainMatters FALL|WINTER 2020 MASKIE FERNANDES, IT Network Administrator Maskie is part of the Telemedicine Rapid Implementation (TRIM) team. At the start of the pandemic, the team worked long hours to help configure and deploy multiple devices across the campus that would allow physicians to conduct telehealth appointments and clients to have virtual visits with their loved ones. Says Maskie: "The success of the eVisit project was perhaps the most gratifying moment for me. To be able to virtually connect our residents with their loved ones was very satisfying. The smile on our clients' faces was worth our every effort." RAQUEL MEYER, Manager, Ontario Centres for Learning, Research & Innovation in Long-Term Care | Baycrest Based at Baycrest, Raquel leads a team dedicated to education in the long-term care sector. Her team was instrumental in facilitating educational outreach across the province. Among other things, they helped Ontario's Ministry of Long-Term Care source, train and onboard more than 5,000 nursing students into much-needed PSW roles; as well, her team created a 30-minute eLearning course for family members on how to best communicate with long-term care home staff over the phone. Similarly, Raquel's team helped get evidence- informed and emerging leading practices for proactive communication into the hands of long-term care homes across the province in partnership with Family Councils Ontario. "As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded in March, our team quickly pivoted to support the sector. I am proud to work with dedicated colleagues who collaborated with poise under pressure. Drawing on our network of relationships with stakeholders and our team's expertise enabled us to respond in a timely manner," Raquel recalls. LINH NGO, Infection Control Practitioner As part of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) team, Linh worked seven days a week when the pandemic hit. "I was part of the team that developed new protocols and polices for COVID-19," says Linh. Her most rewarding moment of the pandemic was when she declared the first case of COVID-19 in the hospital as resolved.
