baycrestfoundation @supportbaycrest @Baycrest BrainMatters FALL|WINTER 2020 1 W elcome to the latest edition of BrainMatters magazine, bringing you timely information on brain-healthy living and ways to optimize your well-being. As we continue to navigate through the pandemic this year, I want to take a moment to commend all the staff at Baycrest for their incredible ongoing efforts to ensure the best possible care and safety of our residents, patients, visitors and one another. Our cover story shines a light on a handful of Baycrest staff whose efforts represent just the tip of the iceberg of the tremendous work that has taken place on our campus and beyond. Our community is privileged to have such devoted professionals working for the betterment of all. Amid the realities of dealing with our 'new normal' are continued innovations and progress in brain health that would not be possible without the generosity of our community of donors, volunteers, staff, patients, residents and their families. We are pleased to bring you more stories and news about the best ways to stay brain healthy, and how we are continuing our dedicated work in the fight against dementia during these unprecedented times. Elsewhere in the magazine, we share top tips from our experts on how to stay psychologically well during the pandemic; put forward a discussion on aging and vaccinations; take a look at how technology is boosting care and socialization; and, bring you a 'brain healthy' new recipe for the fall. As well, we share stories about our passionate community of donors who are helping shape the future of aging and whose generosity is directly assisting older adults in these uncertain times. Plus… much, much more. As well as Baycrest has responded to the impact of COVID-19, the reality is that no one budgeted for a pandemic. The costs to keep our campus safe and reach those who need Baycrest's services out in the community continue to add up. We are grateful to everyone who is supporting us along the way and thank you for your ongoing and much-needed help. If you have not already, I ask that you please play a role in supporting our efforts during COVID-19. You can call our Donations Office at 416-785-2875, or donate to the Safeguarding Our Seniors (SOS) campaign by visiting baycrestfoundation.org. At the risk of sounding cliché, now more than ever, we need your help. Wishing you a safe and healthy fall and winter. Josh Cooper President and CEO, Baycrest Foundation Josh Cooper STRAIGHT TALK
