In 2008, she left the practice of law to study painting full-time in New York City. Her artwork has been shown in solo and group shows in Washington, D.C.; New York City; Venice, Italy; and, the greater Toronto area. She studied painting and drawing at New York University, the New York Studio School and OCAD University. What's Real vs. Remembered? Rachael Grad Artist Statement Fragments of memory are reflected in cut-up photographs and painted movements. The brain is covered in mixed media collage, including pieces of Rachael Grad's original photographs taken in Israel, painted scenes in acrylic, and various materials and objects. The broken pieces of collage symbolize the illusion of memory. The difference between what actually happened and what's remembered is unclear because of the nebulous nature of memory. Photographs appear to document events, but memories are questioned through the combined fragments of documented and imagined scenes. This blending further emphasizes the theme of real versus remembered.
