18 T H E B R A I N P R O J E C T 2 0 2 0 Ashley, the youngest Campbell, was originally a theater major at Pepperdine University, California. Music had always been a major part of her life, beginning with piano lessons at age six, then picking up the guitar at 15. But it wasn't until she was asked to learn the banjo for a role in Pepperdine's Edinburgh Theater program that music began to take the wheel as both a passion and a career. Shortly after graduation, Ashley joined her father, Glen, on his Goodbye Tour where she played both banjo and keyboard. "I can't even put into words how priceless it was for me to be able to perform with my dad," she said. "I had the best seat in the house, being right there on stage with him every night. Watching him was the ultimate lesson in sharing joy and experiences through music." After the tour, Ashley signed a publishing deal and moved to Nashville in 2013 to write and make her own way in the music world. Ashley went on to write and release her first single "Remembering" in 2015. A deeply personal reflection about her father's Alzheimer's diagnosis, "Remembering" was featured in the documentary, Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me. The soundtrack for the documentary would go on to win two Grammys. This success launched Ashley's solo career, and she released her first album, The Lonely One, in 2018. Ashley co-produced the record with her brother Cal and released it on her own label, Whistle Stop Records. Now touring nationally and internationally, Ashley has plans to release her sophomore album, produced by friend and co-writer of "Remembering", Kai Welch, in the near future.
