36 T H E B R A I N P R O J E C T 2 0 2 0 Michael Rennick is a mixed media artist based in Toronto, where he studied Drawing and Painting at OCAD University. Michael grew up in rural Ontario and his inspiration often comes from nature, wilderness, the idea of the unknown and the nostalgia and associations to "home." His practice involves incorporating found items, organic materials, hand-crafted miniatures, sculpture and traditional painting. He enjoys pushing the boundaries between art and craft. Where Is Home? Michael Rennick Brain health hits close to home for me. My father was diagnosed with dementia shortly after the passing of my mother in 2017. I think as artists it is important for us to use our creativity to spark conversation and awareness about brain health. If my siblings and I had been more knowledgeable regarding the early signs of dementia, we may have been able to help my father earlier on. Normalizing conversations through art ultimately spreads awareness and of course, funding for research is of the utmost importance. " "
