Nursing homes were severely impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our vulnerable, older population was, and continues to be, at great risk.
For several weeks, staff at Baycrest were not able to offer recreational
activities, outdoor visits, concerts, or bingo, creating a significant gap in
social connections and a departure from known and loved routines. Baycrest
staff shifted into emergency gear and filled that gap. Staff were redeployed
to ensure that all residents had regular friendly visits. Employees were
equipped with iPads and teams coordinated eVisits with family members,
watched videos and sang with residents and patients in their rooms.
With the help of these frontline workers, residents and patients are
now able to participate in many enjoyable virtual or physically distanced
programs such as music, Baycrest's mobile art cart, travelogue videos
with iPads, knitting, museum on wheels, exercise and games.
