Community Outreach A long-time season ticket holder for the Toronto Maples Leafs, Joey Bonamasso has seldom missed a hockey game in more than 60 years. and an unsteady gait didn't stop him. But he did need help coping at home. The Community Outreach Team visited to assess the 85-yearold's situation and referred him to the Saul and Rae Saltzman Day Treatment Centre at Baycrest, where he was outfitted with a hearing aid, hand splints and a walker to help him move around safely – especially at the Air Canada Centre. Growing deafness, arthritic hands 700 people a year The Geriatric Psychiatry Community Service sees about 700 people a year. A team of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and occupational therapists provides in-home and outpatient care to older adults who have problems such as depression and memory loss. "Our role is not just to keep people living in the community longer, but also to improve their quality of life," notes Dr. David Myran, medical director of the service. 8 Baycrest 2008/09 Annual Report
