Celebrating 90 Years
The forerunner of today's Baycrest was founded in 1918 in downtown Toronto by a small group
of Jewish women who would be gratified – and astonished – to see what their legacy has
produced 90 years later. Since those early days when the Ezras Nashim Society established
the Toronto Jewish Old Folks home, the spirit of volunteerism, combined with the expertise
of staff in elder care and the discoveries of leading scientists, has supported the growth of
the 21st century Baycrest, a place known worldwide for excellence in care, research and
teaching, particularly in the area of brain disorders.
