18 • BrainMatters • Fall/Winter 2021 BAYCREST GLOBAL SOLUTIONS Exporting Knowledge for Aging Populations Worldwide and Supporting Older Adults Back Home Using its four pillars of research, innovation, care and education, Baycrest is committed to giving everyone the tools they need to make their later years the best years of their lives, and making bold moves to export what it has learned to share with the world. For the past few years, Baycrest Global Solutions (BGS), the knowledge commercialization arm of Baycrest, has worked with international partners in Asia to bring the best of geriatric care programs and methods to help aging populations in that area of the globe. It is expertise that is desperately needed now more than ever. To put it into perspective, according to the United Nations' 2020 Population Ageing Document, there are an estimated 728 million persons aged 65+ worldwide. By 2050, that number is expected to more than double, totaling 1.5 billion older adults. The largest increase (300+ million people) is projected to occur in Eastern and South-Eastern Asia, increasing from 272 million persons aged 65 years or older as of 2020, to 572 million in 2050. The Aspen Tree and Baycrest will look to bring our new 'aging- in-place' model to other Asian markets, offering a winning combination of lifestyle and healthcare to address the challenges of aging societies. Hye-June Park, President, The Aspen Tree Dr. William Reichman, President & CEO, Baycrest, signs a Letter of Intent with MQDC for BGS to manage the senior living operations at the Aspen Tree in Bangkok, Thailand.
