BrainMatters • Fall/Winter 2021 • 19 Over the last 10 years, Canadian government representatives around the world have sought Baycrest's expertise to help them create programs and communities suited for older adults. One such project is an initiative in Thailand. In 2019, Baycrest signed an agreement with Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited (MQDC), a Bangkok-based development company, to operate its world-leading eldercare facility, The Aspen Tree. The Aspen Tree is a luxury community created for older adults in Bangkok, containing 290 condominiums and 120 residential suites on a 119-acre green district. At the time of the agreement, The Aspen Tree President Ms. Hye-June Park said Baycrest will "bring a level of excellence to spark a revolution in the market amid Thailand's rapid shift to an aging society and the region's gathering 'grey tsunami.'" "Baycrest is globally renowned for its eldercare expertise, having served older adults in Toronto for more than 100 years, uniquely combining research and care to develop pioneering, evidence-based approaches," she added. "Baycrest's first collaboration in Southeast Asia marks a new level of professionalism to propel the sector here and across Asia. The Aspen Tree and Baycrest will look to bring our new 'aging-in-place' model to other Asian markets, offering a winning combination of lifestyle and healthcare to address the challenges of aging societies." In effect, BGS will ensure that Baycrest is exporting not only 100+ years of knowledge in research, innovation, care and education in the areas of brain health and aging, it is also changing the journey of aging worldwide. In October 2020, Baycrest Global Solutions (BGS), in collaboration with Peking Union Medical College Press, introduced the first Mandarin version of Baycrest's Dementia: A Caregiver's Guide (updated 3 rd edition) across China. This comprehensive guide, written by Baycrest experts, provides dementia caregivers with practical tips and coping strategies in areas such as: activities of daily living, communication, sex and intimacy, managing challenging behaviours, driving, falls prevention and home safety. Since its translation, the Mandarin language version of the guide is now offered as the first-of-its -kind book in China on dementia caregiving. The official book launch event in Beijing was hosted by the Chief Physician of Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Chairman of the Beijing Neurodegenerative Disease Society, Dr. Yanfeng Li, where he presented the book to a live audience, including members of the Chinese media and officials from the Embassy of Canada in China.
