BrainMatters • Fall/Winter 2021 • 1 baycrestfoundation @supportbaycrest @baycrest Welcome to a special edition of BrainMatters magazine, bringing you timely information on brain-healthy living and ways to optimize your well-being. Baycrest is working to change the future of aging. As you will note, starting with the cover of this issue, we have a new fundraising and awareness campaign to get the message across: Fear No Age™. Our message is clear — growing old isn't the beginning of the end, it's the start of a whole new beginning. It's our call to action to defeat dementia and provide everyone the tools they need to make their later years the best years of their lives. For close to two years, we have persevered through the ongoing pandemic, serving our community of older adults, their families and caregivers with world-leading aging and brain healthcare, as we have done for more than a century. Now, we are taking our knowledge in research, innovation, care and education, and reaching out locally, nationally and across international borders to help people everywhere benefit from our expertise. This edition features stories that highlight how age truly is just a number. Our cover story is a spotlight on Cheryl Hickey, host of ET Canada, Baycrest supporter and advocate for dementia care. She shares her personal experience of caring for a loved one with dementia. Elsewhere, we look at transforming ambulatory care through digital technologies; how our scientists are discovering new ways to protect the brain at every age and stage of life; how Baycrest is helping to foster the next generation of leaders in brain health care; and shine a light on residents who are living their best lives at the Terraces of Baycrest. Plus… much, much more. As the scientific headquarters for over 300 brain researchers across Canada, Baycrest continues to investigate therapies and lifestyle choices that will help our brains function their best. Ongoing research is leading directly to innovations in caregiving and helping to constantly improve the brain health programs we offer here in Toronto, across Canada and worldwide. Our advances in brain health science are not possible without the generosity of our community of donors, volunteers, staff, residents, clients, and their families. Please play a role in supporting our efforts during COVID-19. Call our Donations Office at 416-785-2875, or make your gift to Baycrest by visiting fearnoage.com. Now more than ever, help us. Fund Fearlessness. Wishing you a safe, healthy and happy fall and winter. Josh Cooper President & CEO, Baycrest Foundation Josh Cooper President & CEO, Baycrest Foundation FE ARLESS THINKING
