18 • BrainMatters • Spring/Summer 2022 One of the participating partners is the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCCGT), which boasts over 30 years of serving the GTA's Chinese population. Angela Chan, President of the CCCGT, was thrilled to become a part of the Expo. "The opportunity to participate in the DiverseCity Expo allows us to share our vision and programming with the city as a whole and become part of a bigger citywide exchange," she says. "Appreciating one another's backgrounds is an important first step in building understanding and tolerance so we can live in harmony. Toronto can set an example to the world through our multi-faceted cultural mosaic." The CCCGT's exhibit, Tribute to Friendship, housed at the Centre (5183 Sheppard Ave E., Scarborough), will explore the 1,000-year history of the Jewish presence in China. Artists from both communities will showcase commonalities and respectful differences through a multi-disciplined and interpretive overview of the historical connections. Tribute to Friendship, exhibit logo. As one of the most diverse cities in the world, Toronto boasts numerous well-established cultural hubs that support the preservation of one's heritage. Art is, of course, one of the most important representations of culture. With the understanding that cross-cultural sharing is an essential tenet of our city's mosaic identity, Baycrest, a leader in brain health and aging with deep Jewish roots, formed and supported the funding of the DiverseCity Expo, in partnership with different cultural centres throughout Toronto. Taking place throughout the month of May, this citywide collection of artistic experiences will celebrate and promote art, music, dance and food-related endeavours. An online platform will provide a comprehensive list and details about the exhibits to promote cross- collaboration and encourage conversation. CHINESE CULTURAL CENTRE OF GREATER TORONTO
