We will engage in a series of thoughtfully curated activities that cater to all levels of experience. From topic-focused presentations to interactive group discussions, and from meditation and reflection sessions to storytelling activities, each program will cater to the diverse needs and interests of all participants. Be open to immersing yourself in profound discussions and practices that encourage a deeper understanding of your spiritual self, forge genuine relationships with fellow participants, and foster a sense of community and belonging. Discover the power of meditation, mindfulness, and creative expression as tools to manage stress, alleviate anxiety, and cultivate inner peace. Wisdom of Folktales (Baycrest at Home Program) Soul/Meditation and Mindfulness Risk Factors: social connections, mental wellbeing, cognitive engagement Instructor: Dr. Rena Arshinoff Jewish foltakes have messages that resonate in our life today. This program is facilitated by spiritual care leaders with the goal of drawing out the wisdom found in traditional folktales and making it relevant in daily life. Themes of resilience and drawing on other ways of knowing are prevalent. The format is generally the retelling of the story, in a digestible narrative, followed by an interactive group discussion on what the stories mean to us personally. This is a highly participatory program, with the aim of exploring your strengths and examples of overcoming challenges to highlight places to draw inner strength from. Forest Bathing (Baycrest at Home Program) Mind/Nature-Based Escape Risk Factors: social connections, physical activity, mental wellbeing Instructor: Jim Liang Head Take the time to recharge with nature regardless of where you are, even while indoors! Learn what forest bathing is and some of the benefits of connecting with nature. Take part in a guided nature visualization that will enliven all five senses. Explore your immediate surroundings with new eyes and take a moment to share what you're noticing with our supportive online community. Join us from anywhere that's comfortable, preferably near a window. Look no further than Torah Talk, a unique and enriching program expertly facilitated by the esteemed Rabbi Haber, a knowledgeable and passionate guide. Torah Talk is a dynamic and interactive program designed to provide participants with a platform to explore the timeless teachings of the Torah. This program offers a space for individuals to engage in thoughtful conversations, share insights, and gain a deeper understanding of the Torah's profound messages. Torah Talk is open to individuals from all walks of life, regardless of their background or previous knowledge of the Torah. Whether you're seeking spiritual insights, intellectual stimulation, or a welcoming community, this program offers something meaningful for everyone. 5 week program, flex Mondays, October 23, November 6, 20; December 4, 18 4 p.m.- 4:45 p.m. Zoom (see the Admin team for the Zoom link) Class size: 15 Bible Study Soul/Meditation and Mindfulness Risk Factors: social connections, mental wellbeing, cognitive engagement Instructor: Rev. Karen Fox Bible Study will consist of exploring topics of interest to participants. Discussion will be open and interactive, seeking to draw out particiants' understanding of a passage given their unique perspective and life experience, as well as reflect on how our viewpoints change throughout our lives. In this way, we expand our view of self and others. 4 week program, flex October 20; November 3, 17; December 1 10 a.m.- 11 a.m. Theatre Class size: 10 3 week program Wednesdays, October 18; November 15; December 13 1 p.m.- 2 p.m. Theatre Class size: 10 Pet Therapy: Fynn the Golden Retriever Soul/Meditation and Mindfulness Risk Factors: social connections, mental wellbeing Instructor: Stephen Silverhart Fynn is 11 years old and Stephen is his handler. To qualify as a therapy dog, Fynn had to go through a series of tests with St. John's Ambulance. In fact, proudly, he stood first in his cohort of other dogs applying to become therapy dogs. Stephen is a semi-retired airport and aviation consultant, who spent 30 years in various positions at Toronto-Pearson and Toronto Billy Bishop Airports. Stephen and Fynn's journey with Baycrest started in 2017 when they began weekly visits to the Apotex Centre, Jewish Home for the Aged and alternating visits with Baycrest Hospital. Post-COVID-19, they resumed their weekly visits to the Baycrest Terraces, bi-weekly visits to the Hospital, and occasional visits to Mountainview at Baycrest and Toronto Police Services. While Goldens were originally bred as "working dogs" in Scotland in the late 1800's, Fynn's "work", which he thoroughly enjoys, involves his visits and interactions with all clients and program participants. If you love dogs, come out and meet Fynn 14 one-day workshop Sunday, October 22 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. Creative Arts Studio Class size: 12 Ecotherapy and Plant Crafting Mind/Nature-Based Escape Risk Factors: social connections, mental wellbeing Instructor: Kat Gibson Nature connection can be a therapeutic practice. Over the course of this program, we'll engage in practices to deepen connection with nature and plants through a guided tea meditation and crafting with herbs.
