Essentrics respects that the body moves in all directions. Therefore, techniques used in class aim to enhance the natural movements of the body. Through various techniques, this class will help increase your range of motion, improve posture, assist in injury prevention and recovery, and deepen your body awareness. Walk Fit: Start-Where-You-Are Walking Program Fitness/Cardio Risk Factors: social connections, physical activity, mental wellbeing Instructor: Marc Espinet Physical activity doesn't need to be complicated. Something as simple as a daily brisk walk can help you live a healthier life. Come learn walking technique, posture, and stretches. We will also discuss how to enhance speed and intensity while still keeping in mind safety and fun. You'll not only boost your mood, strengthen your bones, and improve your balance, you'll also get to socialize with your peers. Fitness Fundamentals Fitness/Muscle Conditioning Risk Factors: social connections, physical activity, mental wellbeing Instructor: Colin Blayney Join us for a muscular conditioning class that will leave you standing taller and looking lighter. Together we will work on core activation, posture, and balance. You will also learn important techniques to improve lifting and carrying for activities of daily living. Exercises are safe even if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia. Weekly sessions, flex Wednesday Sessions Friday Sessions 9:15 a.m. - 10 a.m. 12:45 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Pool Class size: 10 8 week program, flex Fridays, October 20 and 27; November 3, 10, 17, and 24; December 1 and 8 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Activity Room A Class size: 3 to 10 Gentle Aquatic Fitness Aquatics/Aquatic Fitness Risk Factors: social connections, physical activity, mental wellbeing Instructor: Louise Gray, Denise Acton Explore range of motion, joint action, muscle strengthening, and gentle cardiovascular workouts designed for non-swimmers and those very new to the concept of water exercise. Please bring a towel. Pilates for Active Aging Fitness/Balance, Flexibility, and Stretching Risk Factors: social connections, physical activity, mental wellbeing Instructor: Terri Dunnigan This class will work on core and glute strength by emphasizing body alignment in both standing and seated positions. You will be introduced to various gentle, controlled movements, low-im- pact exercises, and easy breathing techniques in a friendly and restorative atmosphere. 18 Fixed Program: You must start on the first day of the class series (i.e. you have to start at week 1 because each week builds skills upon skills). Flex Program: You can jump into the class at any week (i.e.. you can join at week 4 without having been in weeks 1-3). The pool is not supervised by a lifeguard, so you must swim with a buddy if attending the Open Swim times.
