Performing Arts 6 week program, fixed Tuesdays, November 7, 14, 21, 28; December 5, 12 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Activity Room A Class size: 12 Note: Please be sure to wear comfortable clothing and footwear. Beginner Ballroom and Latin Dance Dance/Ballroom and Latin Risk Factors: social connections, physical activity, cognitive engagement, mental wellbeing Instructor: Egor Belashov This exciting six-week course will introduce you to the wonderful world of ballroom and Latin dancing. We will cover the basics of dance favourites such as the Waltz, Foxtrot, Merengue, and Rumba. Classes are designed to give you the opportunity to learn footwork in both solo and partner formats. 4 week program, fixed Tuesdays, November 7, 14, 21, 28 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. Activity Room A Class size: 12 Note: Please be sure to wear comfortable clothing and footwear. Contemporary Dance Dance/Contemporary Risk Factors: social connections, physical activity, cognitive engagement, mental wellbeing Instructor: Allison Bradley This contemporary dance class offers a safe space to explore movement. Through improv exercises, phrases across the floor, and choreography, dancers will embody and embrace contemporary dance. Learn how to express yourself through movement in a positive and creative atmosphere!. 6 week program, flex Tuesdays, October 17, 24, 31; November 7, 14, 21 11 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Activity Room A Class size: 20 Group Singing Music/Singing Risk Factors: social connections, mental wellbeing Instructor: Sina Fallah Come join one another and sing single-voice classic tunes with the accompainment of an instrument. You can participate by singing, humming, tapping, or moving to the beat. 6 week program, fixed Mondays, November 13, 20, 27; December 4, 11, 18 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Activity Room A Class size: 15 Introduction to Songwriting Music/Songwriting Risk Factors: social connections, cognitive engagement, mental wellbeing Instructor: Katie DuTemple Songwriting is easier than it sounds. Using your own experience as a guide, you will learn how to write lyrics by rewriting existing favourites, followed by crafting a song from scratch as a group. Topics include song form, rhyming patterns, musical arrangement, and instrumentation. Basic music theory, genre, emotional expression, and phrasing will also be covered. No experience or technical ability needed, just a willingness to try something new. 4 Fixed Program: You must start on the first day of the class series (i.e. you have to start at week 1 because each week builds skills upon skills). Flex Program: You can jump into the class at any week (i.e.. you can join at week 4 without having been in weeks 1-3).
