In May, over 80 volunteers from grades 7–12 came together for the first Teen Takeover at Baycrest. Volunteers took part in activities with residents, gardening and event preparation. 22 • BrainMatters • Fall/Winter 2023 SCENE AROUND BAYCREST As a global leader in brain health and aging, Baycrest is committed to creating a world where every older adult enjoys a life of purpose, inspiration and fulfilment. This past spring and summer, with the continued support of our generous donors, we engaged with our community through a number of exciting new and returning events. Some of the highlights included the Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer's in support of Baycrest, a tour of Metalworks recording studio, Baycrest's first Teen Takeover volunteer event, the second annual Mattamy Homes Bike for Brain Health, and Generation Next's 1970s Decade Dance: "Studio 54," among others. Dr. Allison Sekuler Gil Moore, Joey Scoleri, Josh Cooper Baycrest was included in a new BBC series, Technology's Golden Age. Read more about Baycrest's feature on page 4! Baycrest supporters got a behind-the-scenes look at Metalworks Recording Studio with an exclusive tour and fireside chat with studio owner Gil Moore, drummer of the band Triumph, and Joey "Vendetta" Scoleri, Head of Industry Relations, Live Nation. The 2023 Scotiabank Pro-Am in Support of Baycrest Baycrest Young Philanthropy and Baycrest Real Estate Professionals came together to raise funds with a Charity Spin at Spokehaus in April 2023. The Brain Project returned across the city this past summer, with a focus on one key driver in maintaining brain health and support in delaying the impacts of dementia: physical fitness. Some new furry friends brought smiles to the Apotex residents this past spring.
