17 How to Find Life on Another Planet Science/Astronomy Dr. Sarah Rugheimer Bodies in Motion: A History of Physical Activity Science/Cognitive Health Dr. Michelle Cameron We are getting closer to answering one of humanity's biggest questions: Are we alone in the universe? What do the discoveries of the James Webb Space Telescope mean? As we discover the vast diversity of life on Earth, our minds can only begin to imagine the possibilities for life to exist on other planets. This talk will cover the challenges and hope for detecting the first signs of life on another planet. Physical activity is a key component of a healthy lifestyle today. This talk series will discuss the deep history of how humans have moved our bodies over time, and how this deep history impacts the ways we move today. This program has no requirements and is aimed at an introductory level. Participants will learn very basic anatomy, the evolution and archaeology of physical activity, and an understanding of how contemporary activity and exercise is connected to our species' distant past. One-time lecture Activity Room B Apr. 2 Tuesday, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. Two-part lecture series, flex Creative Arts Studio Apr. 7 and 14 Sundays, 2 - 3 p.m. Your Brain on Stress: How Does Stress Get Under the Skin to Impact the Brain? Science/Cognitive Health Dr. Danielle D'Amico How does stress impact our aging brains? This lecture will answer this question and more by discussing the science behind our body's stress physiology. Themes include: what's going on "under the hood" when we experience stress, why stress isn't always a bad thing (and when it is), and evidence-based ways to help increase our resilience to stress. Group discussions will be incorporated throughout. Two offerings Activity Room B Feb. 16, 2 - 3 p.m. Apr. 19, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. The Environment Made Me Do It: How the World Around you Affects Your Brain, Health, and Behaviour Science/Cognitive Health Dr. Katherine Krpan Could the number of trees on your street influ- ence your physical health or the view from your hospital room impact how fast you recover from surgery? In this 60-minute lecture, we will explore how the environment in which we live has a significant impact on our brain function, general health, and behaviour, and WHY this might be the case.
