13 French for Beginners Literacy/Languages Olga Rubino French for Beginners is an introductory course that teaches students basic vocabulary, phrases, and grammar. It is designed for those who have little or no previous knowledge of the French language. Students will also learn about the landscape and culture of France, Quebec, and the Francophone world. 10 week program, fixed Zoom Jan. 16 to Mar. 19 Tuesdays, 12 - 1 p.m. Welcome to the Symphony: A Historical Exploration of the Genre's Past and Present Creative Arts/Music Dr. Lindsay Jones Become immersed in the field of musicology (the study of music history) by examining the symphony for the unique musical genre that it is. Through musical demonstrations and guided listening exercises, you will explore the compositional features of symphonic works, and critically investigate the social, political, and cultural climate in which these pieces were written. Your newfound understanding of how to creatively engage with the cultural contexts of these pieces will make you a hit at your next dinner party, and just might result in adding some symphonies to your next playlist! 2 lecture series, flex Activity Room B Mar. 31 to Apr. 14 Sundays, 11:30am - 12:30 p.m. Memory and Aging Science/Cognitive Health Sue Vandermorris The Memory and Aging Program is an evidence-based memory intervention program aimed at older adults living in the community who are experiencing normal age-related memory changes. People who participate in the program can expect the following benefits: increased knowledge of memory, factors affecting memory, memory strategies; a "toolbox" of memory strat- egies to apply to everyday; increased satisfaction with their memory and a sense of "normalization"; adopting lifestyle practices that support brain health; and reaching personal goals. 5 week program, fixed Open Air Theatre Feb. 13 to Mar. 12 Tuesdays, 10 - 12 p.m. Writer's Workshop Creative Arts/Creative Writing Julie Booker Do you have stories to tell? Stories you'd love to have written down, to be shared with others? In this program your creativity and voice will be honoured and fostered weekly. Each session we'll work together to enrich and empower your writing as we explore different topics and ideas.
