19 Judaism, Christianity, and Non-belief: Beginnings and Early Histories Class Series/Religious Studies Dr. Christopher Zeichmann Although words like "Judaism," "Christianity," and "Atheism" conjure something specific in our minds, these lectures will discuss the diversity of beliefs among these different religions/non-religions. How did they each develop from something very different in antiquity to become what we know them as today? May 12 to Sun 2 - 3:30 p.m. 3 weeks, flex May 26 Dates Day Time Sessions/Type Health, Sprituality, and Wellness Class Series/Philosophy Dr. Zoe Anthony In this three-part lecture series, we will discuss the philosophy of health and spirituality. Starting with the philosophical idea around "health," from Plato, and then comparing this to contemporary ideas, we will explore many theories. We will also ask what is spirituality, and its relationship, if any, to religion? Discussions will also include philosophy and spirituality as factors in health care and practical ways in which this can be achieved. May 10 to Fri 1 - 2 p.m. 3 weeks, flex May 24 Dates Day Time Sessions/Type Anne Frank and Her Literary Afterlives Class Series/Literature Dr. Joanna Krongold Anne Frank has taken on an almost mythical persona in contemporary culture; we encounter her in books, films, online memes, political messages, and social media posts. What has led to this apparent ubiquity? Together we will look at the words Anne Frank wrote about herself, and how her diary has shaped and been shaped by popular culture in the years since its publication. This is a virtual Zoom class. You will receive the Zoom meeting link one day prior to the session start date. Jun 19 to Wed 6:30 - 8 p.m. 3 weeks, flex Jul 3 Dates Day Time Sessions/Type Yiddish III Class Series/Language Chana Weiss Each class, we will deepen our exploration of Yiddish through songs and poetry, building on the grammar and texts explored in Level II. This course focuses on enhancing conversational skills and literacy by interpreting cultural works with interactive activities to improve fluency.
