27 BAYCREST | 2024 CREATIVE ARTS STUDIO PROGRAMMING "Joseph, a former construction worker, was initially hesitant to explore art. When referred to Creative Arts Programming, I listened to his story and encouraged him to try. Providing materials and guidance, I showed him a few pictures and assured him that now was a chance to learn. Choosing a picture of a rose, he described the colours he envisioned and how he could paint it. As we sat down in the recreation area, I introduced him to watercolour painting in simple steps. Upon finishing his first painting, he was shocked by its beauty, looking at me with disbelief. Carrying his painting, he proudly showed it to everyone, exclaiming that his sisters wouldn't believe it. He has since picked up supplies from the hospital floor and painted over 40 watercolour pages, carrying them in a bag behind his wheelchair to share with others." – Naz Nezarati, Creative Arts Worker "When I look around in the studio, I see how far we've come with our creations. If it wasn't for our creativity and your guidance, I wouldn't know where to start." – Doug L, Apotex resident SHARING DANCE OLDER ADULTS "Sharing Dance is so much more than a dance class. This program is physically moving, creative, and community-driven. We see residents, patients, families, and caregivers participating not just alongside each other, but together. Caregivers are dancing along with residents while smiling and singing along, and residents are showing off their expression of a dance move to each other. The dancing itself is always adapted to one's ability from tapping toes, to clapping, to busting out a twist and shout. Dancing is fun, accessible and provides the opportunity for everyone to come together as a community." – Emily Sitter, Arts in Health Coordinator "We look forward to dancing every week. We get to do it together and it doesn't feel like I'm the caregiver and he's the resident. It's just two people dancing together." – Caregiver of Apotex resident MUSEUM ON WHEELS, MUSEUM IMMERSED, AND MAKING HISTORY "I just came back from the greatest program." – Resident to spouse upon leaving program "Thank you again for yesterday's Museum on Wheels, it was a great opportunity, and the residents are still talking about it!" –Therapeutic Recreationist in Apotex
