35 BAYCREST | 2024 Training for better care Gaming isn't just for slaying dragons. Virtual learning based on gaming is an effective tool for training care providers how to provide excellent care for older adults. It also promotes teamwork and sharpens skills using the values we live by at Baycrest. We've trained more than 2,000 learners. E-learning is growing. With more than 145 core courses, we help family medicine students, doctors and dentists to upgrade their skills or earn credentials. We also host international doctors who come with us on virtual rounds, and we help train caregivers in long-term care homes. SAGE is a unique program. Volunteers offer to play the roles of agitated patients, stressed family members, or caregivers so professionals can practice techniques and refine skills. Only a few programs like this exist around the world. Project Echo promotes professional connections. Each week, care providers meet virtually with a team of geriatric specialists and discuss dementia: screening and diagnosis methods, symptoms, mood disorders, falls, sleep disorders, pain, incontinence. Workshops help caregivers sharpen their skills. We promote critical thinking, communication, and effective responses with innovative approaches like simulations, gaming, and role playing. A frail aging suit can simulate physical changes that happen with aging. A trigger room is an experience in teamwork. Simulations of challenging situations help create positive responses. Leading-edge programs make staff top notch Innovative training techniques help caregivers build better teams and find creative ways to solve problems They provide better care for older adults everywhere. Here's a glimpse of what we do.
