26 BAYCREST | 2024 Singing, dancing, painting, learning, growing Programs offer something for everyone at every age THE RONALD & NANCY KALIFER CULTURE HUB An inviting space for our extensive art collection and rotating exhibitions From the Vaults: Small groups discuss four pieces of art that share a theme and learn about the artist, technique, and time period. Digital VanGogh: More than 400 Vincent Van Gogh works were shown on nine screens for patients who can't get out to museums and galleries. Stunning. MUSIC FOR THE SOUL Therapists use all aspects of music to give our residents greater quality of life and better health Concerts: Classical, jazz, pop and other genres of music ring out through our buildings, including the Isadore & Rosalie Sharp Family Atrium. Everyone taps along. Buddy's Glee Club: Everyone is invited to sing. Residents practice and perform songs. A music therapist makes sure everyone can participate. The smiling faces say it all. THE MORRIS AND SALLY JUSTEIN HERITAGE MUSEUM Keeps our cultural heritage alive with exciting interactive programs and an impressive collection of Judaica Museum Immersed: Residents do gentle chair-based movements inspired by historical artifacts. Museum on Wheels: Staff bring historic artifacts to residents and patients so they can explore them through various senses. Making History: A hands-on learning experience often based on recreating an artifact with art materials. The Kalifer Family Heritage and Legacy Project: A wonderful project to record the stories of our community. Videotaped interviews reveal insights into the life experiences and wisdom of our elders and preserve their memories for future generations. THE DONALD AND ELAINE RAFELMAN CREATIVE ARTS STUDIO A bright and cheerful space where music fills the room and budding artists draw, paint, make prints, create pottery, weave, bead, and explore other creative outlets. A mobile art cart brings supplies to residents in the Apotex and patients in the hospital. Baycrest Classroom: Instructors from Toronto Metropolitan University give lectures to residents of the Apotex. Topics include Great Gardens of the world; Exploring the World through Travel; Songs of Great Entertainers. It's continuous learning at its best. Sharing Dance: Who doesn't love to shake it? Working with Canada's National Ballet School, the Sharing Dance program teaches older adults classes based on different musical and dance styles. OUR RESIDENCES ARE A BEEHIVE OF ACTIVITY ON ANY DAY Cooking classes, field trips, breakfast clubs, Pride Month celebrations, drum circles, exercise and fitness classes, book clubs, discussion groups, games tournaments, gardening, games nights, backgammon tournaments, movies, choirs. We do it all and we have fun.
