RTCANNUALREPORT 2013 2014 TRAINEEPROFILE Baycrestisanacademichealth sciencescentrefullyaffiliatedwith theUniversityofToronto.In2013 2014,theRotmanResearchInstitute (RRI)hadacomplementof25 scientists,14adjunctscientists,1 scientificassociate,2clinician associates,and 1biostatistician,the majorityofwhommentoredtrainees. Withinthisworld classacademic environment , 105 trainees received trainingandmentorshipinthepast year. 32 Postdoctoral Fellows 46 Graduate Students 23 Summer Students 4 Co - op Students BaycrestandtheRotman ResearchInstitute(RRI) attracttoptalentfrom aroundtheworld.In2013 2014,over 30 B aycrest traineeswereawarded scholarships, fell owships , orawardsinrecognitionof theiracademicand researchexcellence. National Fellowships Seven train eeswereawardeda totalof$698 ,000bynational fundingagenciestosupporttheir researchendeavours. Theseincludedprestigious fellowshipsfromthe Canadian InstitutesforHealthResearch(Dr. MariaD'Angelo,LisaEngel,Dr. MelanieSekeres,Dr.Valorie Salimpoor),theNaturalSciences &EngineeringResearchCouncil ( BuddhikaBellana, Dr.AliceKim, Dr. JasonOzubko),andtheHeart &StrokeFoundationCentrefor StrokeRecovery(Dr.AliceKim). Baycrest Donor Fellowships Baycrestdonorsgenerously supportedresearchtrainees throughvariousendowments. Thisyear, fifteen trainees receivedstudentfellow ships , totalling $43,500 , from these endowments including: Max&RuthWiseman GraduateStudentFellowship : StefanieHutka& Kyra McKelvey FinklerGraduateStudent Fellowship :TarekAmer& NickDiamond Men'sServiceGroup GraduateStudentFellowship : BuddhikaBellana&LisaEngel Jack&RitaCatherallTravel Fund : TarekAmer,Michael Armson, JessicaArsenault, AyanDey,NickDiamond, VanessaGhosh,Stefanie Hut ka,JoanNgo,Deborah Schwartz Ontario Research Coalition (ORC) TheORCisacoalitionof seven researchinstitutesandcentresin Ontariofocusedonproducing evidencethatcouldhelpimprove thequalityofcareprovidedto seniorsinOntario.Fundedbythe OntarioMinistryofHealthand Long TermCare,theORC providesfundingtoearly resear chers.Thisyear,n ine research traineeswereawarded over$24,000insupportoftheir researchincluding:TarekAmer, Dr.EveAttali,NathanChurc hill, LisaEngel,Dr.AliGolest ani, JonathanKwinta,Dr.Rosanna Olsen,JessicaRobin,andDr. SignySheldon .
