Grants obtained from the provincial government (Figure 21) has been varying more than the
grants obtained from the federal government (Figure 20). The highest amount obtained from the
provincial government was 1.6 million which was awarded in 2000. This funding comes from the
Foundation for Innovation/Ontario Innovation Trust in support for buying equipment for the
Functional Imaging Research Network (FIRN) project. This type of grant is a special case due to
the costs of the equipment required, and therefore produced a spike in the provincial grants
trend.

The RRI has had success in obtaining grants from industry partnerships, although this type of
grant has been received less frequently than the federal and provincial grants. Figure 22,
illustrates that the RRI was successful in obtaining this type of research support for 19 out of the
25 years analyzed.
