The normalized impact (NI) measures the relationship between an institution's average scientific
impact and the world's average, which is set to a value of 1. The NI is calculated based on
Scopus citations counts, for example a NI of 1.2 indicates that the institution is cited 20% above
the world's average.
Figure 12 displays the NI values obtained by the RRI in each of the SIR global Canada reports
published up to June 2014. The averaged NI for the RRI is 1.88 (Std. Dev. = 0.09), meaning
that the RRI scientific output is cited on average 88% above the world average.
