Figure 18. RRI research featured in newspapers and magazines since 1998.
The RRI research and scientists have been featured in the major Canadian newspapers that
have the potential to reach broad Canadian audience. For example, the Globe and Mail, and
National Post have a weekly readership of approximately 1 million. The Toronto Star has a
weekly readership of two million (National audience database survey, 2008).
Over the past 25 years the RRI has also been interviewed by the television and radio media.
For instance, an approximate of 31 interviews was conducted by the Canadian Broadcasting
Corporation (CBC) and around 28 interviews were conducted by the Canadian Television
(CTV).

The impact of the RRI research through major Canadian newspapers and magazines may have
played a role in motivating people to support the RRI research by participating in research
studies. As of June 2014 there are a total of 12,009 active research participants in the REB
database.
Every year new people sign up as research participants and the RRI has been tracking this
numbers since 2008. Figure19 displays the research participant enrollment since 2008.
Figure 19. Research participant enrollment
Figure 19 shows the number of new people signing up as research participants has been
maintained above a thousand since 2008, except for 2013 when only 996 people signed up.
