Annual Education Report 2014-2015 June 2015 Page 19 of 30 • Educational Research and Innovation: Examples of educational innovations include frail aging simulations (You Tube Video available at: https://youtu.be/aaLA9ykcqxQ) and the development of SAGE: Standardized Acting for Gerontological Education, a volunteer-based standardized patient program in partnership with the Department of Volunteer Services. Evaluation is embedded in all programming. A new grant this year from SIM-one will enable the team to develop and pilot SOS! A Gamified App to Improve Early Detection of Acute Deterioration in the Frail Elderly. Acute changes in condition in the frail elderly are clinically important deviations which, without timely intervention, may lead to significant deterioration or death. The SOS Simulated eLearning App will be designed, trialed and evaluated with healthcare providers and students who participate in Team Essentials for Preventing Acute Deterioration. Through this App, eLearning, eSimulation and gamification intersect to produce a highly engaging gameworld and learning environment that will motivate learners to improve and apply knowledge and decision-making efficiency in the care of this at risk population. As an outcome of another SIM-one grant to explore the use of applied theatre as a simulation technique to engage long-term care staff in enhancing team competencies, a video targeted to educators and simulationists is now available on Baycrest You Tube: https://youtu.be/6hQuHuaaWwY . The CLRI assisted in the pilot and evaluation of Ontario Long Term Care Physicians' blended learning curriculum for Medical Directors. The evaluation demonstrated significant improvements in physician understanding of key content, engagement, confidence and role satisfaction. • Behavioural Support Rounds: In partnership with the Baycrest Toronto-Central LHIN Behavioural Supports for Senior Program, the Baycrest Centre for Learning, Research and Innovation continued a monthly series of intersectoral rounds via Telehealth and OTN Webcast to provide a learning forum to review leading practices in the assessment and supportive management of challenging, responsive behaviours in individuals living with dementia. The purpose of these rounds is to offer practical approaches to support the work of front-line healthcare providers in caring for persons with responsive behaviours. This past year, 241 sites participated in these rounds.
