Annual Education Report 2014-2015 June 2015 Page 5 of 30 Through our partnership with Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), Beijing, China, we continue to offer an international geriatric observership program to students annually. The Centre for Education will again host 10 medical, 3 nursing students and 1 Faculty in July 2015 for 4 weeks. During the observership the students take part in small group sessions, participate in geriatric training programs, observe and learn about geriatric care at Baycrest and participate in site visits to other long-term care settings. Planning the Baycrest Training Academy: Increasing external demands for Baycrest developed educational products and training presents a unique opportunity for the Centre for Education to further develop our training services. A Baycrest Training Academy is aligned with the Education Strategic Plan and speaks to Baycrest Strategic Plan Goal #2 "to disseminate our expertise in our community and across the globe" and will consolidate existing educational products to meet the demands for training locally, nationally and internationally, generating revenue for the organization. Planning is now underway and we are recruiting an educator to begin development of training programs. Awards & Achievements: It has been an outstanding year for our Baycrest teachers. Many have received both internal and external awards and recognition this year. Please refer to the Awards section on page 25. Educational Research: Many of our educators have been actively involved as PI's in a number of research projects: • Dr. David Conn: Advancing the Delivery of Patient and Family Education in Dementia Care • Dr. Cindy Grief: Webinars for Knowledge Exchange in Geriatric Mental Health • Dr. Raquel Meyer: Engaging the Stage: Piloting the Use of Theatre to Enhance Interprofessional Competencies in Long Term Care • Dr. Raquel Meyer: SOS!
