KLAERU PEU • Supported the development and execution of 6 applied and evaluative research projects • Expanded services to 6 new Baycrest divisions/departments including Psychiatry, Clinical Ethics, Pharmacy, Family Medicine, Nursing, and Food & Nutrition Services • Assisted with the dissemination of 3 KLAERU-supported project findings at international conferences and through published manuscripts • Participated in business development activities with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and multi-national companies • Worked closely with Volunteer services to recruit and screen 45 volunteers for research projects • Provided oversight and assistance for 24 research projects across the organization • Created and chaired a working committee to oversee the comprehensive "Baycrest Excellence in Care and Education Poster Day" showcasing 60 research studies across the organization • Provided didactic learning and oversight for 3 Centre for Learning and Research Innovation (CLRI) summer interns in program evaluation methods Kunin-Lunenfeld Applied & Evaluative Research Unit (KLAERU) Strategic Highlights KLAERU is a centralized, institutional gateway to access technical, administrative, and methodological support for staff conducting applied and evaluative research involving Baycrest clients, patients, and families. In its efforts to promote the best care based upon the best evidence, KLAERU strives to accelerate the creation of wellness, prevention, and treatment approaches in aging by supporting applied and evaluative research focused on clinical outcomes, client/family experiences, and knowledge translation. Program Evaluation Unit (PEU) PEU is an interprofessional unit that embraces a utilization evaluation focus and recognizes the need to enhance knowledge transfer. The PEU responds to program evaluation requests from Baycrest leadership, which is vetted by the Office of the Vice President for Medical Services. Since its inception in December 2010, the PEU team has supported evaluation projects spanning years of work. Its initial mandate encompassed: • The development & implementation of program evaluations to provide data that will be used to respond to Ministerial reporting requirements and requests. •Responding to evaluation design and implementation requests from leadership including program directors, clinical managers, and clinicians for the evaluation of specific Baycrest programs •The provision of technical assistance on program evaluation issues for grant initiatives being developed by Baycrest staff •The recruitment, screening, and supervision of volunteers to assist with on- site data collection and analysis The followings are some strategic highlights from the past fiscal year (April 2014-March 2015): April 1, 2014- March 31, 2015 ● KLAERU-PE Annual Report KLAERU by the numbers… 1 Senior Project Manager 1 Research Assistant 1 Intern PEU by the numbers… 1 Director 1 Research Coordinator 2 Research Assistants* 5 Research Students 45 Volunteers *supported by the Alternative Funding Plans and Baycrest Foundation Page 2
