A mindful movement for brain health S ometimes health issues can really weigh on our minds. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 35.6 million people around the globe are living with dementia and this number is expected to double by 2030. To address this growing concern, a thoughtful group of philanthropists, artists, businesses and galleries have put their heads together to create an art project that will get everyone thinking about brain health. The Brain Project, a curated collection of 100 brain sculptures designed by a diverse group of artists, will raise funds for care and research into Alzheimer's and age-related dementia at Baycrest Health Sciences, a world leader in brain health and aging. Beginning this June, an eclectic collection of brain sculptures will be on display at venues across Toronto. With only two months to go, here are a few of The Brain Project's recent accomplishments: 100 artists, including… Karim Rashid, one of the most prolific designers of his generation, has jumped on board to create a Brain Project brain. While his designs for this project are still top-secret, the diversity of his past projects suggests this latest creation will broaden the discussion about brain health. 100 display locations across Toronto Wondering where you can find Toronto's most creative brains? New locations are added every week leading up to the launch in June. Some highlight locations include Nathan Phillips Square, The Distillery District and Union Station. On the big screen The next time you plan to see a movie at a Cineplex theatre, make sure you arrive in time to see the pre-show. Vinay Virmani, writer and star of the hit film Dr. Cabbie, recently took over the set of etalk to interview Ben Mulroney, co-chair of The Brain Project. The interview is scheduled to run in cinemas from May 6 – June 2.
