6 KLAERU Project Highlights PSYCHOLOGY: Evaluang the Impact of a Memory Intervenon Program The Baycrest Memory and Aging Program (MAP) is designed to help older adults experiencing normal age ‐related memory changes. Drs. Susan Vandermorris and Angie Troyer in the Psychology department are assessing whether MAP promotes posive behavior changes and improved everyday funconing. The KLAERU team successfully recruited 40 study parcipants. This contributed to a poster presentaon at the Cognive Aging Conference (April 2016). A manuscript is also in press: "Accepng where I'm at ‐ A qualitave study of the mechanisms, benefits, and impact of a behavioural memory intervenon for community ‐dwelling older adults" (Aging & Mental Health). "That this project was (a) completed, (b) completed on schedule, and (c) completed to exceedingly high methodological and parcipant‐sasfacon standards, are each independently and fully aributable to the professionalism and experse of the KLAERU team." Dr. Susan Vandermorris (Director of Training, Baycrest; MAP Study) INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL, PHARMACY & MEDICINE: Evaluaon of the Anmicrobial Stewardship Program Baycrest's Anmicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) aims to fight anmicrobial resistance by informing and educang clinicians to use anmicrobials according to evidence‐based best pracces. This iniave is led by Nina Kasse (now at University Health Network) and Daisy Yang, ASP clinical pharmacists as well as Dr. Aidlee Cra and Dr. Michael Kirzner, aending physicians. The KLAERU team has provided project management support, managed study interns and volunteers, obtained REB approvals, extracted anmicrobial outcome data from Meditech for over 2,500 cases, completed a full stascal analysis, and is now collaborang as co‐authors in the manuscript process. The KLAERU team also provided editorial support in preparing materials for the ASP team to present their work at the Family Medicine Forum (November 2014). In spring 2016, the KLAERU‐ASP team submied a manuscript for publicaon. SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY: Prevalence of Voice Disorders Among the Elderly Lisa Sokoloff and the team in the Speech‐Language Pathology department deployed a quesonnaire with seniors at the Terraces, 2 Neptune, and the community to determine the prevalence of voice problems as a first step in developing a business case for a geriatric voice clinic at Baycrest. The KLAERU team provided data processing support. To date, data has been collected and remains to be analyzed.
