20 RTC Annual Report 2015 - 2016 Throughout the year, MaRS Innovation (MI) partnered with the RTC in the context of multiple trainin g offerings. In spring 2015, MI (Dr. Stacey Ivanchuk, Hassan Jaferi, Fanny Sie) co - developed a novel workshop, "Research commercialization and entrepreneurship 101", focused on providing basic information to research trainees and staff about the research c ommercialization process as well as entrepreneurial thinking. In spring 2016, MI again engaged with the RTC in developing the case competition for IPN 2016. The team from MI provided important feedback on the case competition problems and format, provided a half - day of mentorship to the case competition teams at the MaRS building, and participated as networking lunch experts and case competition judges on conference day. Baycrest Organizational Effectiveness MaRS Innovation McMaster University Canadian In stitute for Health Information (CIHI) In spring 2015, the RTC formed a collaborati ve partnership with Baycrest Organizational Effectiveness to design, develop, and execute a Research Leadership workshop series for trainees at Baycrest. In recognition that leadership challenges can often be quite specific to the research environment, a R TC steering committee working group (Dr. Rosanne Aleong, Aggie Bacopulos, Renante Rondina) met bimonthly with the team from Organizational Effectiveness (Joel Borgida, Ritesh Nambiar) to conduct an environmental scan of research leadership needs as well as develop and deliver five distinct workshops. The RTC recogn i zes that research data management ( RDM ) is an emerging field that le verages classical research training while pairing it with innovation - driven outcomes. This past year, the RTC aimed to educate trainees about RDM and demonstrate that it is an essential and in - demand skill - set to cu ltivate in an era of "Big Data." Thus, th e RTC partnered with McMaster University (Dr. Jason Brodeur, Vivek Jadon) to develop an experiential internship opportunity in the context of RDM. A Baycrest graduate student (Renante Rondina, Ryan Lab) conduct ed a needs assessment in RDM for the RRI and c o - delivered a workshop to teach the next generation of research trainees about how to incorporate RDM practices into their scientific work - while also exposing them to RDM as a potential future career. In fall 2015, the RTC partnered with CIHI to offer a full - time, paid internship in health system research to a RRI trainee (Dr. Marie St - Laurent, formerly Buchsbaum Lab).
