10 RTC Annual Report 2015 - 2016 Rotman Research Institute Academic Rounds The RRI Academic Rounds series serves as an educational forum in which trainees can keep abreast of cutting edge research in the field, interact with world - class leaders in neuroscien ce, discuss their current work, solicit feedback from their peers, and build their presentation skills. In the 2015 - 2016 academic year, two RRI trainees, Dr. Amanda Lash (Anderson Lab) and Angelita Wong (Paus Lab ), organized the 28 - week lecture series, br inging together exceptional speakers from within the Baycrest community and from other leading scientific institutions. In addition to talks from distinguished scientists from Baycrest and around the world, Academic Rounds provide an opportunity to stimula te new collaborations. In 2015 - 2016, Rounds speakers included scientists, staff, and trainees from Baycrest as well as researchers from across Canada, the United States , and Europe. Notable national and international guests included Dr. Elizabeth Skidmore (University of Pittsburgh), Dr. Steve Small (University of California, Irvine), Dr. Monicque Lorist (University of Groningen), Dr. Karen Banai (University of Haifa), Dr. Todd Braver (Washington University), and Dr. Nic h olas Turk - Browne (Princeton Universi ty). In an effort to share the exceptional research being conducted at Baycrest, fourteen trainees presented their recent work at Rounds in the context of: • lab talks where different members of a lab provide a full overview as well as details of specific project accomplishments and contributions; • data blitz sessions where trainees from different labs provide short snapshots of their current work in order to stimulate future collaborations; • trainee sessions where individual trainees are given the opportunit y to present their full research program as preparation for a defense or job interview.
