17 RTC Annual Report 2015 - 2016 Innovative Per spectives in Neuroscience Conference 2016 On June 20, 2016, the RT C delivered its first ever conference, Innovative Perspectives in Neuroscience (IPN) 2016. IPN 2016 was a trainee - driven, trainee - organized initiative for trainees and staff that included: 1) keynote presentations from industry and not - for - profit leaders i n the neuroscience and brain health space; 2) a trainee networking lunch; and 3) a case competition around brain health solutions and strategies for innovation adoption. IPN 2016 aimed to: 1) expose highly qualified personnel (HQP) to new and alternative vocational pathways in science; 2) allow HQP to explore new skills and interests in neuroscience and brain health through an experiential case competition; and 3) facilitate connections with industry and not - for - profit leaders to spark career development a nd downstream opportunities. The conference represented a chance for trainees and staff to engage in innovation and entrepreneurial thinking while focusing on tangible solutions and outcomes for clients, families, and health systems. With 168 registration s from trainees and staff from Baycrest, McMaster University, York University, Ryerson University, Western University, University of Waterloo, Queen's University, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Hospital for Sick Children, and the Centre for Addiction a nd Mental Health, it is clear that IPN 2016 offered a value proposition for the broader training environment. With presentations from Neil Fraser (Medtronic Canada), Deanna Groetzinger (Neurological Health Charities Canada), and Dr. Graeme Moffat (Muse), t he involvement of experts from IBM Canada, MaRS Innovation, and the Ontario Brain Institute, as well as financial support from Baycrest, the Ontario Brain Institute, and the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies Graduate Professional Development Program, IPN 2016 represented a true collaboration between the RTC and its diverse group of partners. IPN 2016 case competition judges & winners (l to r): Dr. Grae me Moffat, Deanna Groetzinger, Team Responsive Minds (Maria Nelson, Shannon Coffey), Team CP Engage(StephanieBeldick,PrakashamRumajogee,ChristopherAhuja),HamidSadri, MedtronicCanada). The IPN 2016 case competition provided trainees and research staff with the unique opportunity to form inter - disciplinary teams and pitch a brain health innovation or a strategy to promote the uptake/ adoption of a brain health solution. Two winning teams were identified and given a small monetary prize and a chance for a job shadowing or internship opportunity with a partner organization.
