Trainees in the N ews…
In the past year, a number of current and former trainees saw their work featured in a
variety of public forums, whether that be in print, online, or video media or through
public lectures. These opportunities allow trainees to practice transla ting and
communicating the relevance, importance, and impact of their work to a broader
audience. Through these interactions, RRI trainees serve as scientific ambassadors for
their work but also for basic science in the larger community.
• Dr. Norman Farb (formerly Chow Lab)
– The Council of Academic Hospitals of
Ontario (CAHO) Blog described the
team's work evaluating how
mindfulness can help older adults
cope w ith mild to moderate anxiety
and depression.
• Dr. Leon French (formerly Paus Lab) -
The Gl obe & Mail reported on his work
describing the potential impact of
cannabis on brain development in
male adolescents who are genetically
predisposed to schizophrenia.
• Dr. Daniela Palombo (formerly Levine
Lab) - CTV News and CBC Radi o
reported on her work investigating
individuals suffering from severely
deficient autobiographical memory
(SDAM) using brain imaging
technology.
• Dr. Daniela Palombo (formerly Levine
Lab) – The Globe and Mail , CTV News ,
CBS News , Newsweek , and the
Toronto Star reported on her work
studying the memories of individuals
who suffered a traumatic event (e.g.,
crash landing of Air Transat 236) years
after the event using brain imaging
technology.
• Renante R ondina (Ryan Lab) – The
Ontario Hospital Association reported
on his work detailing age - related
changes in brain wave activity when
performing mem ory tasks.
• Dr. Nate Rose (f ormerly Craik Lab) –
Tech Times reported on his work
showing preliminary positive impact
on memory function with a prototype
digita l board game.
• Dr. Valorie Salimpoor (McIntosh Lab)
– She delivered a lecture at Google
titled, "Personalizing Music
Recommendations through
Neuroscientific and Psychological
Applications."
• Dr. Signy Sheldon (formerly Levine
Lab) – NBC News Today reported on
her work on episodic and semantic
memory "styles" using MRI.
• Jordana Wynn (Buchsbaum & Ryan
Labs) – She delivered a community -
based lecture at Beth Tzedec
Congregation – "Memory – Myths,
Facts and Ways to Improve Memory
in your Everyday Life."
