20 Rotman Research Institute Annual Report 2015-2016 PRIORITY #3: TRANSFERRING KNOWLEDGE SHARING OUR EXPERTISE As a global leader in cognitive neuroscience, the RRI broadly disseminates our expertise and knowledge with diverse stakeholders around the world, including academic researchers, healthcare providers, industry, and members of the general public. Through knowledge exchange events, mass media channels, and global research collaborations, the RRI has shared our methods, findings, and successes to spark new research directions, projects, and cultural conversations about cognitive neuroscience and brain health across the lifespan. Rotman Research Institute Conference 2016 – Healthy Brains In spring 2016, the RRI and conference co-chairs, Drs. Randy McIntosh and Tomàš Paus, hosted the 26 th annual RRI conference, "Healthy Brains – Neuroscience and beyond: From science to policy, from mechanisms to prevention and management." The RRI conference is an annual event focused on bringing together local, national, and international scientific leaders and trainees in cognitive neuroscience to share and discuss their research findings, promote research collaborations, and provide an international forum to disseminate research to the broader community. Healthy Brains marked a departure from previous conferences in that it fostered discussion about how we can use our understanding of the human brain to help people live healthier and better lives. In expanding beyond neuroscience and medicine, the conference examined: • factors that contribute to brain health across the lifespan; • prevention of brain health decline at the individual, community, and healthcare system levels; • the role of technology in enhancing quality of life and clinical practice. The program of national and international speakers included: Dr. Ronald Baecker (University of Toronto), Dr. Arfan Ikram (Erasmus University Medical Centre, Netherlands), Dr. Frank Knoefel (Bruyère Continuing Care), Dr. Zdenka Pausova (Hospital for Sick Children), Ron Riesenbach (Baycrest), and Dr. Sudha Seshadri (Boston University).
