Annual Education Report 2015-2016 Page 4 of 31 Highlights for 2015/16 The Centre for Education continues to focus on the implementation priorities identified in the Baycrest Education Strategic Plan (2011-2016) and as we embark on a new education strategic plan for Baycrest we will leverage our initial successes to further develop and grow our Centre for Education locally and internationally. Here are a few highlights of our accomplishments over the past year: Simulation at Baycrest! The simulation program located on the 5 th floor of the Kimel Family building is used for simulation training and experiential learning for staff and students. Educational programs developed include innovative components of simulation, e-learning and opportunities for blended learning. The training space has 2 simulation rooms designed to be a "hub" to host both internal staff and external customers. "Working with Seniors: A Primer for Health Care Providers" Part 2: Our partnership with the Michener Institute has moved into Phase 2 extending the on-line geriatric training course to general entry-to-practice health care professionals through a continuing education course. At Baycrest, we are using this course to train health professional students on the complexities of geriatric care to attune them to the specialized care required of the aging population. Innovative cross-organizational Interprofessional Collaboration: A 4 year partnership with George Brown College on an IPE pilot project called "Top Chef Dysphagia" was initially designed for Culinary Management Nutrition students, Speech-Language Pathologists and Registered Dieticians to learn together with a focus on improving care and service to older adults with swallowing and nutritional issues. It has expanded to now include George Brown College students from Food and Nutrition Management & Personal Support Worker program and U of T Speech Pathology students. Learning, Research & Innovation in LTC: The Baycrest Centre for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long Term Care continues to develop and refine its educational programs. During the past year over 680 staff from 13 LTC Homes and 245 students from 7 schools participated in Team Essentials. Other CLRI achievements and innovative approaches are described on pages 20-23. International Partnerships: The Centre for Education has held a successful 5 year international training partnership with Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) in Beijing, China, to host a geriatric observership program for their students annually. During the observership students take part in small group sessions, participate in geriatric training programs, observe and learn about geriatric care and Research at Baycrest and participate in site visits to other long-term care settings. Dissemination of our Expertise: the Baycrest Training & Simulation a new division of the Centre for Education evolved from the increasing external demands for Baycrest-developed educational products and training. It consolidates our existing educational products to meet the demands for training locally, nationally and internationally. Recognition for our Teachers: Once again, it has been an outstanding year for our Baycrest teachers. Please refer to the Awards section on page 28.
