The design inspiration for Petrifi cation was derived explicitly between the properties of stone and what the brain undergoes during Alzheimer's and dementia. The idea was to carve an anatomically accurate brain in limestone, which would merge fl awlessly with the term "grey matter" to represent the intricate brain-body connection. With Alzheimer's disease, the deterioration within the brain occurs from the formation of plaques and protein tangles, which hold similarities to natural biological petrifi cation. Tiffany Folmeg's personal connection has played a signifi cant part in this undertaking. Her grandfather was diagnosed with dementia about three years before he passed away on Good Friday in 2016.
