The geometric motifs in Christine Vaillancourt's paintings inspired her to use simple 3D forms in primary colours for this sculpture. The title Primary Matter reflects the importance of calling attention to the urgent need for more research and prevention of brain diseases. It's a highly personal cause. Vaillancourt has had people close to her affected by brain illness, including a friend with schizophrenia, an aunt with dementia and a cousin with a traumatic brain injury. This, in part, was her motivation for becoming involved in The Brain Project. PRIMARY MATTER Christine Vaillancourt 100 T H E B R A I N P R O J E C T 2 0 1 6
